6 Products & Tips I’ve Discovered That Make My Skin Glow
I’ve always been a little bit of a health nut. I love trying out new products and tips that make me feel better and look my best. A few months ago, I started to focus on my skin care routine, and this led me to some amazing discoveries. Every girl wants that glow, whether it be from makeup or from a great skin care regimen. Here are some of my favorite products and tips to naturally achieve that healthy, dewy glow.
Rosehip-oil
I’m not exaggerating when I say that rosehip oil has changed my skin. It’s packed with antioxidants and essential fatty acids, which help to repair the skin and reduce inflammation. It is extracted from rose canina, which is a wild rose bush that grows in Chile. I like to apply it before bed and wake up with softer, more hydrated skin.
To use rosehip oil, simply apply a few drops to your face and neck after cleansing. You can also add a few drops to your moisturizer or foundation for an extra boost of hydration.
Retinol
I have been suffering from hyperpigmentation for years and have tried countless products to lighten my dark spots. It wasn’t until I started using retinol that I saw a significant difference. Retinol is a form of vitamin A that speeds up cell turnover and helps to fade dark spots. It boosts collagen production, which leads to firmer, smoother skin.
I use a retinol serum every night before bed. I apply it to my face and neck and then follow up with a moisturizer. I’ve noticed that my dark spots have lightened, and my skin looks overall brighter.
This is the holy grail of skin care products. I cannot recommend it enough!
Sunscreen
I used to think that sunscreen was only for people who spend a lot of time outdoors. I have since learned that everyone needs to be using sunscreen, regardless of whether you’re spending time in the sun or not. Sunscreen protects your skin from harmful UV rays, which can cause premature aging and skin cancer.
I like to use a physical sunscreen with zinc oxide. This type of sunscreen provides broad-spectrum protection and is less likely to irritate the skin. I apply it to my face and neck every morning, even on days when I’m not planning on spending time outside. Sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher is ideal. You can also buy foundation or BB cream that contains sunscreen for an extra layer of protection.
Wash the face before going to bed
This is probably the most important skin care tip I can give. It’s so important to wash your face before going to bed, as this is when your skin repair and regenerate. This removes all of the dirt, makeup, and pollution that your skin has been exposed to during the day. I like to use a gentle cleanser and warm water. I massage it into my skin for a minute or two before rinsing it off.
I then follow up with a toner, serum, and moisturizer. This may seem like a lot, but it only takes me a few minutes to do. I always make sure to remove my makeup before washing my face.
This is a simple step that makes such a big difference. Your skin will thank you for it.
Chemical Exfoliation
Exfoliating is an important part of any skin care routine. It helps to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. I used to use a physical exfoliator (one with beads or granules) to slough off dead skin cells. This was fine, but I noticed that my skin wasn’t as smooth as I wanted it to be. I then switched to using a chemical exfoliator, which uses acids to dissolve dead skin cells. I apply it to my face once or twice a week, and I am so happy with the results. My skin is now softer and smoother than ever before.
There are a variety of chemical exfoliants available, but my favorite is glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is a type of alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that is derived from sugar cane. It’s gentle enough to use on a daily basis, but it’s still effective.
To use a chemical exfoliator, simply apply it to your face after cleansing. You can then rinse it off or leave it on overnight. I like to use a cotton pad to apply mine, as this ensures that the product is evenly distributed.
Eating a Healthy Diet
I’m not going to tell you to start eating kale and quinoa, but I will say that what you eat can impact your skin. Eating a healthy diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats will help to nourish your skin and keep it looking its best.
I’m also a big believer in drinking plenty of water. Water helps to keep your skin hydrated and flush out toxins. I aim to drink at least two litres of water a day.
In addition to eating a healthy diet, I also take supplements that are good for my skin. I take a probiotic supplement daily, as gut health is linked to skin health. I also take a collagen supplement, as this helps to keep my skin looking plump and youthful.
